Kirsten Jaglo
Kirsten works with private sector clients, the federal government, foreign governments, and international organizations on agriculture, climate change, and sustainability. With a Ph.D. in science and work experience at the State Department and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Kirsten conveys complex scientific ideas and information to lay audiences, spanning the general public to key decision-makers.
With more than 20 years of experience, Kirsten is an expert in estimating the environmental and climate impacts of different agricultural practices and evaluating current and projected future greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Her assessments help determine which agricultural practices could result in the largest climate and environmental gains. They also assist in developing estimates of the environmental impacts of biofuel production.
Kirsten writes agriculture-related technical documents for multiple clients, including USDA, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the United States Agency for International Development, the World Bank, Monsanto, and others. She also researches and writes reports for USDA on agricultural conservation practices, culminating in technical summaries, white papers, and reports.
In her role, Kirsten researches and writes summary reports on barriers to adopting sustainable agricultural practices. She organized a workshop to help identify increased adoption opportunities, during which she created agendas, managed logistics, invited attendees and speakers, collated background papers, and wrote summary documents.
Kirsten’s expertise includes technical subjects outside of agriculture. For EPA, she researched and wrote multiple documents related to the Clean Water Act. Other projects include researching and writing up-to-date EPA health assessment documents for norovirus, adenovirus, giardia, and cryptosporidium. She also reviewed methods for detecting freshwater contamination, including coliphages and quantitative polymerase chain reaction.
Kirsten contributes to developing the National Environmental Policy Act documents for public and private sector clients.
